BEFORE YOU CHOOSE

Start with compatibility. Then choose capacity.

A few checks now make it easier to choose a product that suits your device and the way you use it.

01

Drive connection

Check SATA versus NVMe support, M.2 length and keying, drive-bay size and available connections.

02

Memory format

Confirm DIMM or SODIMM and the required DDR generation. These are not interchangeable choices.

03

System limits

Consult your device manual for supported capacity, speeds, available slots and upgrade restrictions.

04

Back up first

Keep a separate backup of important files before replacing a drive or carrying out an upgrade.

USEFUL ANSWERS

Storage & RAM FAQs

Practical answers to help you narrow the choice. Always check the exact product and manufacturer specifications before ordering.

RAM holds data used by active applications. Storage retains your operating system, applications and files. They address different needs, so identify whether you are short of working memory or file space.

No. DDR generations have different electrical and physical requirements. Buy the memory generation specified for the motherboard or laptop.

Not necessarily. Check the supported drive length, interface, keying and available clearance. An M.2-shaped slot does not by itself confirm support for every SATA or NVMe drive.

A drive can hold a backup, but a backup also needs a regular process. Keep another copy of important files separate from your working device and check that you can restore it.
