The TP-Link TL-WA855RE helps bring an existing 2.4GHz wireless network into a room with weaker reception. It plugs into a wall socket and uses two external antennas, with a signal indicator to help you choose a position that still has a useful connection to the router.
Wireless and wired options
- N300 Wi-Fi using the 2.4GHz 802.11b/g/n standards.
- Wireless link rates up to 300Mbps.
- One 10/100Mbps Ethernet port for a compatible wired device.
- Access-point mode for creating Wi-Fi from an Ethernet connection.
- Range Extender button for pairing with a compatible WPS router.
- Tether app and web-interface management.
Where to place it
For wireless extension, position the unit between the router and the area needing coverage, within reach of a usable router signal. In access-point mode, connect its Ethernet port to the existing network. The 300Mbps figure is a wireless link rate; actual throughput depends on signal quality, interference and traffic, and the Ethernet connection is limited to 100Mbps.
